Appointment / co-opting of Parish Council Members:
The Parish Council was unfortunately found in contravention ruling S85 of the Local Government Act 1972, which states that all counsellors must attend a meeting at least once every six months, unless there is a pre-arranged leave of absence agreed in a full council meeting. Although the council continued to work during lockdown, they did not meet at a minuted full council meeting due to restrictions at the time and so all councillors were temporarily suspended from office. Four temporary council members have now been appointed by order of the District Council, wiith the powers to co-opt further members at a full council meeting. This was summarised in the order of appointment as follows :
`The District Council held an ordinary meeting of the Council on 23 September 2020 to consider a report about temporary appointment to the Parish Council (Paper ES-0490 and relevant minute refer) and agreed at that meeting to appoint persons temporarily to fill the vacancies until other Parish Councillors are elected and have taken up office and to the making of an order under s91 of the Local Government Act 1972 to give effect to their resolution.`
The persons appointed were: Mr. N. Albertini, Mrs. S. Collins, Mr. A. McManus and Ms. J. Shafer. The order of appointment is available from the Parish Clerk upon request.
At a short emergency meeting of the council on Saturday 12th December, the original council members - Mr. P Youngs, Mr. G. Franks, Mrs. I. Franks and Mr. D. Gunson were co-opted to the council, following a period when the public could request an election.
We say good bye and thank you to Mr. Wayne Chapman, who has stepped down as a Parish Councillor.
